About

Tudor Dixon is a businesswoman, breast-cancer survivor, and working mom of four girls. She built a career in Michigan’s steel industry throughout the early 2000s, leading industrial sales for heavy equipment in the agriculture, automotive, and energy sectors, among others. Quickly a leader in that space, Tudor was highlighted in 2009 at just thirty-one years old as part of “Metalcasting’s Next Generation” by trade magazine Foundry Management & Technology and served as Chairwoman of the Steel Founders Society of America’s Future Leaders Committee.

Tudor paused her career upon having children and being diagnosed with breast cancer.  After beating cancer, Tudor returned to the steel industry briefly before beginning an entrepreneurial journey that led her to conservative media and activism.

As a mom of four young girls with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Tudor became concerned about the indoctrination of children in our schools. That led her to found Lumen News, which provided pro-America, pro-Constitution morning news programs to grade school students.

As Lumen became more successful, a new conservative network approached Tudor to integrate Lumen’s programming into their own. Tudor accepted the offer and transitioned to being “in front of the camera” for the first time. Tudor traveled the country in that role, covering dozens of Trump rallies and other events as COVID took hold.

An experienced businesswoman with countless miles walked across factory floors, Tudor immediately recognized the enormous damage Gretchen Whitmer’s lockdowns would have on the economy, especially for working-class families. She began to speak out before the lockdowns took a deeply personal turn, with Tudor’s grandmother dying in the fall of 2020 in a Whitmer-locked-down nursing home. Thanks to Whitmer’s cruel no visitation policies, Tudor and her four young daughters could only wave goodbye through the outside window before Nana passed.

Tudor began to speak out further for job creators like Marlena Hackney, the Holland restaurant owner jailed for reopening her doors in defiance of Whitmer’s unconstitutional orders, and for families like her own, who Whitmer robbed of last moments with their loved ones.

Soon enough, Tudor decided to take the fight to “Big Gretch” directly, entering the race for Governor in May of 2021. Tudor has since traveled tens of thousands of miles across Michigan, listening to countless everyday citizens.

Always solutions-oriented, Tudor has established herself as the visionary and clear policy leader in the Republican field. She is the only candidate to release detailed plans to rebuild and grow the economy, stop the indoctrination of our school children, empower parents in education, expand school choice options, apply common-sense reforms to Michigan’s elections, and more.

A conservative outsider lacking the insider political connections of her opponents, Tudor has battled the establishment machine for more than a year as she seeks the Republican nomination to challenge Gretchen Whitmer.

However, Tudor’s commitment to casting a real governing vision has won her support and continues to generate momentum. Congressman Bill Huizenga, Congresswoman Lisa McClain, Ambassador Ric Grenell, the American Conservative Union, Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, the Associated Builders and Contractors of Michigan, and others have all endorsed Tudor.

Democracy & Governance

Sign Strong Voter ID Laws
Sign legislation to make Michigan’s Voter ID laws the strongest in the country. Combat the liberals’ patronizing and racist narrative that Black people don’t know how to get IDs.

Reform Mail Ballots
Codify signature matching requirements and strengthen criminal penalties for forging ballot signatures.  Ban ballot harvesting and drop boxes. Enact strict chain of custody and records retention requirements for all mail-in ballots.

Create Tough Criminal Penalties for Voter Fraud
Review criminal penalties and develop a comprehensive criminal code for Michigan to enact before the 2024 elections.

Ban Zuckerbucks
Ban using private funds for election administration and vote counting. Retroactively investigate the $12M + in Zuckerbucks that flowed through Jocelyn Benson’s nonprofit to two major democrat political consultants in 2020.

Clean Up the Voter Rolls
Clean up the Qualified Voter File to get rid of the thousands of dead and long moved out-of-state voters that remain on the rolls, per even mainstream media reports.

Economy & Jobs

Reduce Personal Income Tax
Develop and enact a plan to phase out Michigan’s personal income tax over time so families have more control over their finances. Make Michigan more competitive with fast-growing states like Florida, Texas, and Tennessee – all of which have zero personal income taxes. We will never reduce funding for law enforcement agencies or public safety initiatives.  Unlike Gretchen Whitmer’s “Defund the Police” allies, we believe in fully funding law enforcement and providing them the resources they need to keep our communities safe.

Upscale Workforce Training & Emphasize the Trades
Expand public-private partnerships between the education system and the private sector to increase workforce training opportunities. Create a state-level plan to expose more students to high-demand skilled trades and high-paying career opportunities.

Slash 40% of Regulations in 4 Years
Cut, reduce, or streamline 40% of Michigan’s enormous regulatory code in four years. Unleash entrepreneurs, unlock economic growth, and attract new businesses and workforce talent to the state.

Cut Corporate Welfare
Analyze all Michigan incentive programs created and utilized over the last decade to determine their efficacy and efficiency. Make data-driven decisions about how to reform or remove them.

Make Michigan Open for Business
Rapidly enact pro-growth policies and rehabilitate the state’s image as hostile to businesses

Environment & Energy

Protect Line 5
Enact stronger protections for Line 5 and similar critical infrastructure projects in Michigan to protect Michigan jobs, workers, and businesses.

Prioritize Road Repairs & Regulatory Reform
Fund road repair as a fundamental priority in the state budget and make regulatory changes to simplify and speed up road building.

Utilize Alternative Financing Opportunities
Finding new ways to fund critical infrastructure and roads without raising taxes is possible. Michigan should use public-private partnerships and other innovative financing mechanisms where they make sense and can ease the annual burden on taxpayers.

Consolidate Agencies
Streamline the over 600 government agencies and departments in Michigan that handle road funding annually and improve the overall management of the state’s road system. Eliminate wasteful overhead costs and reinvest in actual road fixes – a multi-year overhead reduction plan should be developed by the state legislature in consultation with national and state experts.

Revise Funding Formula & Make Funding More Flexible
Evaluate transformational changes such as revising the funding formula entirely, giving local districts more flexibility in allocating revenue, or allowing local governments to have greater control over funding decisions.

Health & Education

Tudor Dixon opposes lockdowns and anti-Science mask mandates
She will pardon all business owners who were cited under Gretchen Whitmer’s illegal lockdown policies. She will block mask mandates in schools. And she will launch investigations into Michigan’s state government response to COVID to find out why Gretchen Whitmer ignored expert advice to keep COVID-positive patients out of nursing homes and to see who profited from the harsh lockdown policies

Distribute Tutoring Certificates
Fund 25 hours of one-on-one or small group tutoring in reading and math for every student in Michigan using some of the $6 Billion in federal COVID relief funding for schools to help students catch up.

Preserve Parents’ Rights
Require school districts to put all curriculum and teaching materials online for parents to see and ban school personnel from talking to Kindergarten-3rd grade children about sex and gender theory secretly behind their parents’ backs.

Protect Girls’ Sports
Protect young girls from being forced to compete against biological boys in school sports by banning born boys from playing on girls’ teams in school-sanctioned, gender-specific sports.

Improve Civic & Financial Literacy
Enact substantial civic and financial literacy requirements for grade school. Develop a civics curriculum that focuses on America’s founding principles, the United States Constitution, and the roles and responsibilities of government as envisioned by America’s founding fathers.

Create Education Savings Accounts
Empower parents to decide which education environment is best for their child. Allow families to use the state’s per-pupil funding amount on public, private, charter, virtual, or homeschooling option

Human Rights

Tudor Dixon is Pro-Life and endorsed by Michigan’s Largest Pro-Life Organization.
“Tudor Dixon is a strong pro-life leader who possesses the ability to lead Michigan towards being a life-affirming state.  Right to Life of MI PAC is excited to work towards the election of Tudor Dixon as Michigan’s next governor.” – Paul Miller, chairman of Right to Life of Michigan’s PAC board.

Tudor Dixon is a Constitutionalist and supports Constitutional Carry
Regarding school safety, she has called for all so-called “diversity/equity/inclusion” consultants and administrators in public schools to be cut and the funding for their positions to be repurposed and used for armed school security.  She also proposed using one-time federal COVID relief funds to harden schools through increased security features and planning.

Public Safety

Ban Sanctuary Cities
Implement a statewide ban on sanctuary cities and require cities and local governments to comply fully with federal immigration law.  Stiff penalties would be created for politicians and government officials that willingly ignore federal immigration laws.

Enact Constitutional Carry
Stop all efforts to restrict the 2nd Amendment and ensure that law-abiding citizens can protect themselves.

Fund De-escalation Training
Increase funding for training in de-escalation techniques, starting by redirecting funding from so-called “implicit bias” training programs. Stop perpetuating the false and racist myths that law enforcement officers are inherently racist and predisposed to violence against minorities. Fully fund law enforcement agencies across the state and block any budget cuts meant to reduce law enforcement budgets.

Keep Cash Bail for Violent Criminals & Repeat Offenders
Fight the persistent efforts by liberal politicians to bust criminals out of jail through so-called “Cash Bail Reform”. Stop far-left ideologues from rebranding criminals as victims and law-abiding citizens as racists for wanting public safety.

Zero-Tolerance for Riots
Enhance criminal penalties for crimes committed during riots or violent “protests” and prevent attempts to destabilize our communities through death and destruction.

Wikipedia

Tudor Dixon (née Makary; born May 5, 1977) is an American politician, businesswoman and conservative political commentator.[1] A member of the Republican Party, Dixon was the party’s nominee for Governor of Michigan in the 2022 election. She became the Michigan Republicans’ first female nominee for governor.[2] Dixon lost the election to incumbent Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer, while still receiving the highest raw vote total for a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Michigan’s history.[3]

Early life and education

Dixon grew up in Naperville, Illinois, the daughter of Vaughn Makary (died 2022) and Catherine Makary,[4] graduating from Naperville Central High School in 1995.[5] She is of partial Lebanese descent.[6]

Dixon received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology from the University of Kentucky in 1998. In the 2000s, she moved to Muskegon in western Michigan.[7]

Career

Before her career in media, Dixon was an executive at her father’s steel foundry.[8][9][10] In 2017, Dixon co-founded Lumen Student News, a now-defunct news site that produced conservative-leaning lessons for grade school students.[4]

Conservative commentator

In 2018, she became a conservative commentator, anchoring the weekly program America’s Voice Live on Real America’s Voice, a streaming news and opinion channel.[4][11] Some of Dixon’s comments were that hijabs are oppressive garments and that Iranian parents are murdering daughters who marry without obtaining parental permission. She has also defended comedians’ use of blackface.[12][10]

In March 2023, Premiere Networks launched The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Podcast Network, with Dixon becoming their debut host.[13][14][15] She hosts “The Tudor Dixon Podcast”.[16]

2022 Michigan gubernatorial candidacy

Dixon campaigning with Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin

In May 2021, Dixon announced her candidacy to become the Republican Party’s nominee for Governor of Michigan in the 2022 election, seeking to challenge incumbent Democrat Gretchen Whitmer.[17] In a July 2022 Republican primary debate, Dixon pledged loyalty to Trump.[18] During the campaign, Dixon promoted Donald Trump‘s attempts to overturn the election.[19][20][21] In a May 2022 debate, when asked, “Do you believe Donald Trump legitimately won the 2020 election in Michigan?,” Dixon responded, “Yes.”[22] In subsequent media appearances, Dixon would not say whether she still held that belief.[22][23]

Trump endorsed Dixon after Trump’s former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos wrote a letter to the former president, asking him to support Dixon, whom DeVos termed “the only one who can stand toe to toe with” Whitmer.[24] In August 2022, Dixon won the Republican primary.[25]

Dixon was endorsed by Trump,[26] the DeVos family,[27] former acting director of national intelligence Richard Grennell,[4] representative for Michigan’s 2nd congressional district Bill Huizenga,[28] GOP House Conference Chair Elise Stefanik,[29] and former Democratic representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district Tulsi Gabbard.[30]

In the general election Dixon lost, but still received the highest raw vote total for a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Michigan’s history.[3][31] On November 9, she called Whitmer to concede the race.[32]

Despite Dixon’s loss, she managed to flip Gogebic County in the Upper Peninsula (which had voted for Whitmer in 2018), making this the first election since 1932 where a Democrat won the Michigan Governor’s Mansion without carrying Gogebic County.[33]

Political positions

Abortion

Dixon supports a ban on all abortions except solely when necessary to save the life of the pregnant woman,[34] and would oppose any exceptions for rape or incest.[35] She has also said she does not believe the mother’s health is a sufficient reason, saying that the “health of the mother and life of the mother are different.”[36] In an interview, she described the example of a 14-year-girl raped by her uncle as a “perfect example” of an abortion that she believes should be prohibited, adding, “a life is a life for me.”[34][37] In follow-up interviews, she has repeated her belief that there should be no exceptions for victims of rape and incest.[38]

COVID-19

In a June 2020 episode of her America’s Voice Live show, Dixon said “our kids are not at risk” of catching COVID-19. When Whitmer brought this up during an October 2022 debate, Dixon denied making the comment and said “My own children have had COVID, so I would never say that.”[39][40]

Following an October 2022 decision to include COVID-19 vaccines on the CDC’s optional immunization recommendation schedule,[41] Dixon alleged that “liberal policymakers are pushing COVID-19 vaccines on our children and forcing parents out of the process”. According to Michigan Advance, the state “does not have a vaccine mandate for COVID-19 and unvaccinated children are not precluded from attending school”; the media outlet further noted that “This is not the first time Dixon has touted misinformation about COVID-19 and children”.[42][43]

In a June 2020 episode of her show, Dixon invoked a conspiracy theory that the COVID-19 pandemic was part of a plot that Democrats have planned for decades in order to topple the United States.[44]

Education

Dixon plans to found Education Savings Accounts, which can hold funding for students to use on various options of schools.[45][46] In order to establish Education Savings Accounts, she has called for the repeal of the state’s constitutional provision prohibiting public funding of private schools.[45] The DeVos family shares this end goal, for which it has been advocating for years.[45][46]

Dixon proposed a piece of legislation that would ban teachers from talking about sexual orientation or gender identity with K-3 students.[47] She called for the resignation of the leader of Michigan’s Department of Education due to LGBT training materials, stating that “our schools are laboratories for their social experiments and our children are their lab rats.”[48]

In June 2022, Dixon spoke in support of a bill that would prohibit drag shows in public schools and permit parents and guardians to sue schools that host drag shows.[49] Critics highlighted the lack of evidence for such events in Michigan schools,[7] and they pointed out that drag shows were not defined in the bill.[49]

Equal rights

Dixon has made public comments that have been condemned as racist by a journalist and an activist, such as defending the usage of blackface. She also described hijabs as “oppressive garments”.[50] She thinks that Planned Parenthood aims to control the black population and that the George Floyd protests were part of a scheme by Democrats to take down Donald Trump.[51][52] During her campaign for governor, Dixon made a gender-based attack, suggesting her opponent is not a “real woman”.[53]

Fiscal policy

Dixon supports tax cuts, especially by ending the state’s flat income tax of 4.25%,[54] which makes up one-sixth of the state’s total budget.[55] Her plan to replace revenue lost by the tax cut relies on tourists from other states.[56] Dixon has vowed not to cut police funding.[57] Dixon has criticized Gretchen Whitmer for her order to shut down the Line 5 pipeline, arguing that the closing will only lead to an increase in energy prices.[58] She has also criticized Whitmer’s policies regarding nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.[59] Dixon, whose grandmother died at a nursing home amid the pandemic,[60] accused Whitmer of being “ruled by fear”.[59]

Voting policies

Dixon supports the Michigan Voter ID Initiative.[4] If passed, the initiative would require governmental ID to vote, end the sending of unsolicited applications for absentee ballots, abolish ballot drop boxes, prohibit ballot harvesting, restrict election expenses to be publicly funded, and toughen punishments for election fraud.[4][61][62] Dixon also called for an audit of the 2020 election results in Michigan.[4]

Personal life

Dixon is married to Aaron William Dixon, a financial controller,[4] and they have four daughters.[63] She is a breast cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in 2015.[17][64]

Dixon is an evangelical Christian.[65]

Dixon considers acting a hobby and has appeared in low-budget horror films.[66]
