Summary
The US onAir Network will be working with volunteers from Michigan universities, colleges, and nonprofit organizations to oversee the curation and moderation of posts, aircasts (online discussions), and in person events for the Michigan onAir Hub … related to federal, state, and local elections and government.
Our first outreach will be to Michigan State University partly because of its proximity to the state capital. We have identified many of MSU’s civic engagement, academic, internship and research programs related to making democracy and civic responsibility a focus of higher learning on their campus … for students, faculty, staff, and local community. This post, over time, will have similar information on other collaborating organizations in the state.

About
The University of Michigan’s onAir chapter will initially focus on training interested undergrad and graduate students on how to curate Michigan onAir content especially submitting Top News articles, events, videos, and information and moderating forums in each post they curate.
Student curators will also work with state senate and house committee chairs to produce aircasts on issues being discussed and bills being proposed in their committees.
During election season, students with other other organizations like the League of Women Voters, will coordinate and produce aircasted debates with candidates.

In partnership with campus and community, the Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) advances community-engaged learning at Michigan State University and prepares students for lifelong civic and social responsibility in an increasingly diverse and complex global society. The Center offers seminars and workshops for faculty members, students, and community partners. In addition to supporting faculty members who teach community engaged learning courses, the Center hosts partnership gatherings and reflection sessions. The Center also advises service-focused student groups and provides mentorship through scholar programs and service programs and events. In 2018, CCEL celebrated its 50thAnniversary, making it the oldest operating center of its type in the United States.

Undergraduates in Political Science at Michigan State University have the opportunity to choose from a large selection of course offerings, to conduct research and work with our world-recognized faculty, to study politics and government abroad, and to translate those educational experiences into the real world with five internship and experiential learning programs that range from small town government, city government, state government, law and courts, and national or international government.
Master of Public Policy
Our goal is to give our students the analytic and practical tools to be leaders in their policy careers. Our program prepares students to develop, analyze, and carry out well-grounded and rigorous policies. Combining two highly ranked departments, political science and economics, the MPP program emphasizes training in policy analysis, policy feasibility, and economic and quantitative analysis. MPP graduates seek professional careers in policy analysis, program management, and policy advocacy within the public, private, or non-profit sectors.

Research Initiatives

A major goal of our department is to conduct research that furthers our understanding of political phenomena. Our research efforts range from a micro focus on how political stimuli impact how people think about politics to a macro focus on how countries interact in diplomatic relations. Our department has a history of being a political science department at the forefront of research advances in political science and it is our goal to continue that trend.
Estimates published in an American Political Science Association journal from 2019 rank our department as a top 20 research department in terms of both impact and top publications.
The intellectual life of the department is organized around six subfields described below, and these broadly reflect the conceptual and theoretical range of questions addressed in political science. But interdisciplinary and cross-subfield research is encouraged and present as well.
